Whilst in the UK for our summer holiday in 2009 we were lucky to visit few of England's famous gardens such as Barnesdale, Sandringham House, Kew in London, Sissinghurst and The Lost Gardens of Heligan in Cornwall on our way south. Travelling north we called in to Hidcote in the Cotswolds as well as Blenheim Palace outside Oxford and Ann Hathaways Cottage in Stratford-upon-Avon.

We have a larger one like this in our conservatory at Pleasant Point.
After Barnesdale our next garden was at Sandringham House outside Kings Lynn in Norfolk.

Lots of verdant greenery at Sandringham
After Norfolk it was time to go across to Cambridge where we called in to Bury St Edmunds for a couple of hours in the morning.
The Abbey and gardens at Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.
It's hard to believe that Kew Gardens was in existence before Captain Cook's voyage around New Zealand.

Lily pads approximately 1 m in diameter.

After a week in London it was time to head off to Maidstone on the train to pick up a rental car for the short drive down to Sissinghurst.

Part 2 of our garden visits include those to the Lost Gardens of Heligan in Cornwall, Anne Hathaway's Cottage and Blenheim Palace.
